Our History

1968

Triveni Turbines manufactured and delivered the first Steam Turbine (under a Technology License agreement from Peter Brotherhood, UK)

1973

Initiated setting up of a manufacturing unit at Bengaluru.

1974

Dispatched our first steam turbine from our new manufacturing facility at Peenya, Bengaluru

1979

Transformation from a ‘turbine supplier’ to a ‘solution provider’

1980

Triveni Turbines designed and successfully built steam turbines for the Indian Navy which were made in India for the first time for use on their warships, and commissioned the first Steam Turbine Generator (STG) for Combined Heat & Power application.

1981

First retrofit (aftermarket) supply was made to the shipping industry for crude oil pump turbine gearset

1983

First Steam Turbine Generator (STG) for Combined Heat and Power application was exported

1990

Signed a Turbine packaging agreement with General Electric (GE)

1993

Entered into a Joint Venture agreement with GEC Alstom SA

1999

Established Research and Development (R&D) department

2007

  • Completed expansion and modernization of the manufacturing facility
  • Commissioned High Speed Balancing Vacuum Tunnel (Schenck)

2008

  • Received the award for “Strong commitment to excel” by CII – EXIM bank for business excellence

2010

Entered into a Joint Venture (JV) agreement with General Electric (GE) and its affiliates, for manufacture of steam turbines above 30 MWe and up to 100 MWe range through its subsidiary GE Triveni Limited (or GETL now known as Triveni Energy Solutions Limited (TESL))

2011

  • Triveni’s steam turbine business was demerged from Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited into a separate company “Triveni Turbine Limited”

2017

Successfully commissioned the second state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Sompura Industrial Area near Bengaluru and delivered its first turbine from the facility

2022

  • Acquired 70% equity stake in TSE Engineering Pty. Limited (TSE), a company in South Africa
  • Commissioned additional assembly and testing facilities along with heavy material handling facilities at its Sompura plant

Mr. Dhruv M. Sawhney

Mr. Dhruv M. Sawhney
Key Achievements :

Mr Sawhney graduated with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Sciences from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, U.K. and an M.B.A. with distinction from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He was on the Dean’s list for all terms, came second in the University, and is a life member of Beta Gama Sigma, a society for those who graduate amongst the top 1% in the U.S.

Mr. Sawhney received the “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” from the Late President Chirac of the French Republic, and was made an ‘Honorary Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order’ (LVO) by the Late HM Queen Elizabeth II. He chaired the Commonwealth Leadership Development Conferences founded by Late HRH The Duke of Edinburgh to foster and broaden the decision-making ability of future leaders.

Mr Sawhney was President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 1991/92 when India started its economic liberalization program, and was Co-Chair of the IndoFrench CEO’s Forum set up by the President of France and the Prime Minister of India for 10 years. He was nominated by the Government of India as the founder Chairman of the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur for 9 years and is a past Chairman of the Doon School, one of India’s premier high schools. Mr Sawhney is a past President of the All India Chess Federation for 12 years and a Chevalier of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in Burgundy.

Mr. Sawhney is Chairman of The Triveni Group comprising of Triveni Turbine Ltd. and Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd. which have market capitalizations of US$ 1.6 Billion and US$ 0.9 Billion respectively. Triveni Turbine is the second largest global manufacturer of industrial steam turbines under 100 MW with a market share of over 20%. Triveni Engineering is one of the largest Global producers of sugar and ethanol with a production of 1 million tonnes of sugar annually and a distillation capacity of 880KL per day. deals with over 335,000 farmers at its seven sugar units and is among the leading producers of high-speed gears.

Mr. Sawhney chairs the Board of Trustees of North India’s oldest private charitable hospital (named after his great-grandfather and inaugurated by the first President of India). It is funded by the Triveni Group and the Sawhney family and provides free and subsidized secondary care to the weaker sections of society. This 200-bed hospital also runs a free training school for nurses.

Mr. Nikhil Sawhney

He has a BA and MA from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Key Achievements:

Nikhil Sawhney is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Turbine Limited and a Director with Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited in Noida, India. Nikhil worked in the field of investment banking and consumer goods in the UK and USA before joining Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited in 1999. Nikhil has worked in different positions within the Company overseeing corporate functions like corporate affairs, communications, and investor relations as well as the businesses of sugar sales, water, wastewater treatment and turbines.

The Companies occupy leadership positions in their respective businesses of sugar manufacturing, the distillation of alcohol, renewable energy generation, industrial turbines and gears, and water and wastewater treatment solutions. Triveni Turbine Limited is the preeminent manufacturer of industrial steam turbines in India. The Company also holds the distinction of being the largest manufacturer of steam turbines globally for biomass and renewable energy applications. 

He is the President of the All India Management Association and a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta. Nikhil has helped found the CII-Triveni Water Institute and is an active trustee of the Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital and the Emmanuel College India Trust, as well as a Fellow of the Aspen Institute of India and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He is a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta and also the Co-Chair of the Ananta Aspen-led India-Israel Forum. Nikhil has been voted one of India’s forty ‘hottest’ business leaders under 40 by The Economic Times in 2015.

Mr. Tarun Sawhney

Mr Tarun Sawhney
Qualification:

Mr Tarun Sawhney graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, UK, and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Key Achievements:

He is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited (TEIL). TEIL is amongst the largest fully integrated sugar and alcohol manufacturers in India and a market leader in its engineering businesses, comprising high-speed gears, gearboxes, naval defence solutions, and water treatment solutions.

He is a Director of Triveni Turbine Limited, one of the leading producers of industrial steam turbines up to 100 MWe globally.

He is the past President of Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA). He is a past Chairman of Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Limited (ISEC). He is a member of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), National Council and chairs the National Task Force on Sugar and Ethanol, and Bioenergy. He has been conferred the Industry Excellence Award for contributions to the sugar industry by the Hon. President of India, Smt. Pratibha Rao Patil.

​_He is a member of the Indian Public School’s Society (IPSS) and has been on the governing committee of the Oxford & Cambridge Society of India. He is also the current President of the Doon School Old Boy’s Society. He is presently a member of the International Advisory Council of the Tate Modern Museum (UK). Sawhney is also a trustee of the Tirath Ram Shah Hospital in New Delhi, which is one of India’s oldest charitable hospitals.

Dr. Anil Kakodkar

Dr. Anil Kakodkar
Qualification:

He holds BE (Mech. Engineering) degree from Bombay University and M.Sc. in Experimental Stress Analysis from Nottingham University.

Key Achievements:

Dr Anil Kakodkar, is an Indian nuclear physicist and mechanical engineer. He was the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and the Secretary to the Government of India. He was the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay. He has worked on the development of the atomic energy programme in India. He was involved in the first successful Peaceful Nuclear Explosion Experiment conducted by India in 1974 at Pokhran. 

He played a key role in the series of successful Nuclear Tests conducted in 1998. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. He is on the Board of various Companies like Walchandnagar Industries Limited, Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, Gharda Scientific research foundation and Gandhi Research foundation.

Mr. Vijay Kumar Thadani

He graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Key Achievements:

Mr Vijay Kumar Thadani is currently the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of NIIT Limited, a prominent Global Skills and Talent Development Corporation. Information technology, talent development, global business, corporate strategy, leadership, finance, and regulatory management are among his expertise. He is one of the co-founders of the non-profit NIIT University, which was founded in 2009 with the goal of becoming a role model in the areas of learning, research, innovation, and sustainability. In Chongqing, China, he was awarded the title of “Economic Consultant.” He is currently the Chairman of the All India Board of Technician Education, which was established by the AICTE and also a member of the Governing Council of the All India Management Association (AIMA).

He has a B. Tech degree from the lIT, Delhi, and is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

Key Achievements:

Mr Pulak Chandan Prasad, the founder and Managing Director of Nalanda Capital Pte Limited, has three decades of experience in management consulting and investing. He was formerly the co-head of the Indian and Southeast Asian operations of Warburg Pincus. He was with Warburg Pincus for eight and a half years. Prior to that, Pulak was an engagement manager with McKinsey & Company, working primarily with financial institutions and technology companies in India, the United States, and South Africa. In addition, he also worked with Unilever in India.

Mr. Vipin Sondhi

Qualification:

Mr Vipin Sondhi is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. He did his schooling at The Lawrence School, Sanawar.

Key Achievements:

Mr Sondhi has 37 years of experience in manufacturing and engineering-based companies of which 21 years have been as MD & CEO. He was MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, which is the 2nd largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India with an international footprint. Prior to Ashok Leyland, he was the MD & CEO of JCB India for over 13 years and along with a talented team, he led it to sustained market leadership in Construction Equipment; as also established JCB India as a high-quality and technology global manufacturing hub for the parent. He was a member of JCB’s Global Group Executive and oversaw South East Asia and the Pacific regions in addition to India. He has also worked with Tecumseh India (MD & CEO for six years), Tata Steel and Shriram Honda. He has a strong and proven track record as a passionate leader.

The Government of India appointed him as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IlSER), Bhopal (2015-18). He is a member of the National Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CIl) National Council, and the Chairman of CII’s Mission on Technology, Innovation & Research as well Chairman of CII’s committee on  Future Mobility & Battery Storage. He is also the Chairperson of the National Board for Quality Promotion, Quality Council of India. 

He was awarded the (CII) Young Manager’s Trophy in 2000, The Udyog Rattan Awarded by the Institute of Economic Studies in 2011 and The CEO of the year (CEO India Awards) in 2014. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Bharatiya Shakti Trust; The Ananta Centre; and the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation.

Mr. S Narayana Prasad

Qualification:

Mr. S Narayana Prasad (referred to as “Prasad”) graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Nagarjuna University in 1991. Besides this, he holds a PG Diploma in Computer Application.

Achievements:

Prasad is President and Business Head for Triveni Turbines’ Product business for the last 6 years. During this period, he has scaled the Product business to new heights to help Triveni Turbines to grow the business sustainably.

Prasad worked in the Engineering sector throughout his career.  Having worked with few renowned engineering companies, he joined Triveni in 1998 as Deputy Manager – Sales (Southern Region). Over the last 24+ years, his performance and potential has enabled him to scale up the organizational ladder.

In the current role as the business unit head, his responsibility cuts across the value-chain of the Product business (from Marketing & Sales to Execution Cycle leading to Installation/Commissioning till Warranty) covering all the four continents.

Prasad has been successful in enhancement of product range up to 100 MWe and also in increasing the reach to 80+ countries. His other achievements include the Company’s entry to API segment, scope enhancement to extended BOP, scaling up the offerings, Digitalisation of product function, etc.

Prasad has strong orientation of Sales blended with a Customer-Centric approach, enabling him to support the robust growth of the Product business. His vision of sustainable growth with clear focus on Market Share, Profitability, Customer Connect, Supply Chain network backed by reliable System Engineering capabilities has immensely helped the Company to accomplish its goals.

His strategic orientation backed up by a strong urge to network, take lead to resolve critical bottlenecks, being a trusted member has immensely contributed to his success over the last 2 decades.

Prasad’s career journey spans over 3 decades that includes…

August 1991 to June 1995:  Worked at Torrent Power, Baroda.

Started as Graduate Engineer Trainee and worked in Sales & Marketing, Project execution function of turnkey projects, EPC projects in Chemical and Fertilizer Projects.

July 1995 to November 1998: Worked at Kirloskar AAF, Bangalore as Regional Sales Manager, responsible for product sales and Marketing of Pollution control products like ESP’s, Bag Filters and Turnkey environmental engineering projects in power plants, cement plants, steel plants, chemical and fertilizer plants.

November 1998 onwards:  Joined Triveni Turbines as Deputy Manager Sales – Southern Region.

During the experience of 24+ years in Triveni Turbines, he has handled Global Sales, Project Execution, Erection & Commissioning functions.

Mr. Sachin Parab

Qualification:

Mr. Sachin Parab graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Walchand College of Engineering in 1991. Besides this, he holds a PG Diploma from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in 1994.

Achievements:

Mr. Sachin Parab is President and Business Head for Triveni Turbines’ Aftermarket business for the last 6 years. Sachin has worked with the automotive/engineering sector for major part of his career before joining Triveni in Feb 2017.

Sachin’s strengths are managing International business in different domains, team leadership and ability to inspire. He possesses a strong commercial acumen along with exposure to diversity & cross-cultural acceptance.

During his tenure, Sachin has been instrumental in leading the Aftermarket business successfully for Triveni Turbines. In the current role as the business unit head, his responsibility includes the complete value chain of the aftermarket domain (starting from Parts Sales & Services to Engineering for Retrofit/Upgrade & Execution Cycle) for both the Triveni Turbines product range and products from other brands under our multi-brand refurbishing service called Triveni REFURB covering all the four continents. Staying competitive in an ever-changing & highly cost-conscious business portfolio, his Customer Value Proposition has enabled the Company to improve the Net Promoter Score, a key metric to measure customer satisfaction, while sustaining the profit margins consistently.

His immense contribution in developing business in new aftermarket segments (end product as well as geography) has enabled Triveni Turbines to double its revenue from Aftermarket business in five years with a contribution of 30% to overall revenue of the Company (as of 9M FY 23) . His international experience helped Triveni Turbines to expand globally including its first overseas acquisition (South Africa) in FY 2022.

As an astute leader and a trusted pillar of Triveni Turbines, Sachin’s grit, determination, optimizing his experience of around three decades, never-say-die attitude has enabled to stay successful in his career journey. His experience of having worked in various geographies and organizations has strengthened his cultural sensitivity, command respect from all section/levels of employees and commercial acumen. His ability to network, solution-oriented approach and carrying the team alongside has been the hallmark for his success.

Achievements:

Mr. Lalit Agarwal is the Chief Financial officer for Triveni Turbines having 25 years of rich experience in Finance. Lalit has worked with various multinational companies in diverse sectors of Pharmaceutical, Paints, Electrical & Paper before joining Triveni in Oct 2019.

Lalit’s strengths are Corporate finance & strategy, Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial reporting, Banking & Treasury, Taxation, Business controlling, Business restructuring, Statutory Compliance and Internal Controls.

Lalit has a strong knack for connecting the dots and seeing the trends thereby very effective in strategy and business planning. His Passion, Energy and Strong Leadership excite people around him and motivate them to do their best.

In the last four years, he has been instrumental in driving with business the sales and profitable growth strategy. He has undertaken the due diligence and financial structuring for the first overseas acquisition by the Company.

He has been successful in aiding in the upgrade of credit rating of the Company to AA+ with his strong business acumen ably supported by the strong financial metrics of the Company. Mr. P. U. Gopi

Mr. P.U. Gopi graduated in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Suratkal in 1988. Besides this, he holds an MBA in Finance from Bangalore University in 1994.

Achievements:

Mr. P.U. Gopi is Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President in Technology function of Triveni Turbines. Gopi has served in the industrial turbo-machinery domain for over 35 years. During this period, apart from Triveni, he has worked in Alstom Power and CICB-Elliott compressors.

Gopi’s strengths are extensive experience in steam turbine domain and leading market-oriented product development programs. He possesses a strong product optimisation acumen which is critical in developing turbine solutions for competitive environment.

During his tenure, Gopi has been instrumental in leading the product programs successfully for Triveni Turbines. He also carried out developing technology solution landscape roles with earlier associations of the company. In the current role as the CTO, his responsibility includes the project engineering, product development and validation. Product solutions encompasses Industrial power generation, Oil & Gas (API) and other turbomachinery for renewable energy solutions. In addition to power segment, it also includes industrial heating and cooling solutions. Staying competitive in an ever-demanding & highly cost-conscious business portfolio, his Product Value Proposition has enabled the Company to improve the Net Promoter Score, a key metric to measure customer satisfaction levels.

His vast experience in turbo machinery product life cycle and well-honed product development team is helping Triveni in providing products to meet sustainability goals of global customers. It also enabling the Company in providing effective re-lifing solution to aging turbo-machinery fleet.

Associations with leading design houses in USA and global leading Universities in Europe viz. Cambridge, Stuttgart University, POLIMI Milan, Genova University and IITs, IISc, Bangalore have been instrumental in meeting challenging goals of energy conversion efficiency for heat, power and cooling solutions. These initiatives are serving the Company in fulfilling global market needs of environment friendly sustainability solutions.

Mr. K Balasubramani

Vice President and Head of Manufacturing & Supply Chain

Qualification:

Mr. K Balasubramani (referred to as “Balu”) graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Institution of Engineers (India) in 1988. Further he is a certified Master Black Belt in Six Sigma from Indian Statistical Institute. He is qualified lead auditor for the Quality and Environmental Management Systems as per ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. He is also a Senior Assessor carried out Assessment of some of the prestigious Industries for CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence as per the EFQM model. He holds the Boiler Operation Engineer certificate from Government of Karnataka. He is a TPM, TQM, Lean and OSHAS practitioner.

Achievements:

Mr. K Balasubramani is Vice President & Head of Department (Manufacturing, Supply Chain) since 2019. He is with Triveni Turbine Limited for the last 30 Years. He has played a pivotal role in ramping up the production capacity by 2 folds. He was responsible for establishing the state-of-the-art green field project at Sompura for manufacturing and testing of steam turbines upto 100 MWe capacity. In addition, he was instrumental in training of the production engineers and setting up the new work culture thereby steering the manufacturing function to new heights and help Triveni Turbines to grow the business sustainably.

Balu began his professional career with Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Bangalore and worked with the company for six years. At BEML (Rail Coach division), he worked in the areas of Assembly of Tank transporters and Rail coaches. Later moved to Earth Mover Division at Kolar Gold Fields and worked in Maintenance of Gear shop housing special purpose, general purpose and CNC gear machineries.

He joined Triveni Turbine Limited in 1993 and worked in various capacities in the Plant Engineering, Customer Satisfaction & Quality Assurance, Production Planning Control, Sub contracting, Refurbishing, and CCC- Production functions. Has brought about quick turnarounds and set bench marks in the Production, Quality and Refurbishing functions through systemic improvements. Balu was a core member in the development of Quality Management System and lead member in design and implementation of Environmental Management Systems and certifications during early 90’s. Developed and institutionalized customer complaint resolution systems to have multifold improvements. Change initiatives such as Six Sigma, Quality Improvement Initiatives, 5S, Kaizen, DWM etc. were introduced at TTL. Milind graduated from University of Mumbai with degree in Production Engineering, following which he earned his Masters in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech. Additionally, Milind has completed Certification Program in Leadership & Management from Wharton and is a Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) from Risk Management Society.

Achievements:

Mr. Milind G. Mohile is Senior General Manager and Head of Strategy, Risk Management and Digitalization and has been with Triveni Turbine Limited for the last 5 years. He has played a pivotal role in effectively deploying strategic & enterprise risk management that has enabled Triveni Turbines to scale up business operations with careful evaluation of strategic choices and risks. For the past year, Milind has also ensured that digital transformation within the organization has been steered to enable the business growth. In his previous role, Milind was instrumental in strengthening Triveni Turbines’ customer satisfaction and quality management processes.

In his current role, Milind is responsible for establishing and implementing framework for Enterprise Risk Management for Triveni Turbines. As the head of Corporate Strategy, Milind is supporting Triveni Turbines’ business growth by evaluating and engaging in various organic and inorganic growth opportunities.

Career Journey:

Milind started his career with Siemens’ power transmission and distribution business. After accumulating working experience, he joined the Master’s program at Virginia Tech. Milind did summer internships for Infineon Technologies during his Masters and joined them full-time after completing his course work. Working in the U.S. semiconductor industry for 6+ years earned him valuable international working experience in a high-tech industry. After returning to India, Milind re-joined Siemens and worked for their various businesses for 9 years. Milind’s industry experience covers varied industries such as semiconductor, power generation, transmission, distribution and oil & gas. He has worked in operations, projects, strategy & risk management. Milind has also published academic papers in Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Conferences and World Conference on Quality & Improvement.

Mr. R Satyanarayan (referred to as “Satya”) completed his Master of Social Work (MSW) in 1992 from MS University, Vadodara (Gujarat). He brings along an impressive experience of over 15 years in driving Leadership & People Initiatives & partnering the businesses in blending technology with Human Resources in sustaining growth.

Achievements:

Mr. R Satyanarayan came on-board as the Chief Human Resources Officer for Triveni Turbine Limited since Feb ’22. In the short span, he has supported the organization to structure the people related processes & system enabling the businesses to attract, develop and retain talent.

He started as a Management Trainee with Hindustan Packaging Co. Limited (paper lamination & packaging industry).  In his current role, he is responsible for the entire gamut of human resources for Triveni Turbine Limited that includes both Product and Customer Care (Aftermarket) business lines, Technology, Manufacturing & support functions as well as its subsidiaries in India and overseas.

His expertise in talent acquisition has enabled in building the key resources in Technology, Customer Care as well as Product business in addition to creating the engineering bench for future. His connect and communicate approach has enabled Triveni Turbines to attract talent from premium institutes including Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and UPES, Dehradun for their technology functions.

His objective oriented approach blended with the zeal to drive change in collaboration with business through various HR program has enabled the business in their readiness to convert the challenges into opportunities and continue their surge for accomplishing their long-term goals.

Leading the pack for developing the People Strategy in collaboration with the business for long term growth and defining the key initiatives for leadership development, building a learning culture, manage an engaged workforce, developing talent for future readiness will go a long way to support sustainable growth.
